Our mission : easing farmers’ transition to regenerative agriculture

Rize is a tech start-up developing climate finance to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and low carbon agriculture.

Today agriculture amounts to up to 25% of global greenhouse gases emissions, while the large-scale adoption of climate friendly practices could turn agricultural soils into one of the largest carbon sinks in the world by withdrawing carbon from the atmosphere.

In this global effort to solve climate change, Rize has pledged to ease the journey of farmers into regenerative agriculture. Rize is simplifying farmers' access to science and to carbon finance for their climate action.

That is how Rize has developed the first platform worldwide for carbon credits and has already developed a significant network of partners in France (such as farming cooperatives).

The journey to develop carbon finance for agriculture will be filled with plenty of exciting challenges:

  • develop new schemes of carbon finance to ensure that the transition brings more value to the farmers;

  • make carbon finance as accessible as possible to farms

  • in France at first, and in multiple geographies very quickly;

  • make carbon monitoring tangible to our users (farmers and their partners).

Rize was founded in September 2020 by a team of engineers, and has since grown to a team of 6 people. Now, as the project has gained traction and raised funds, we are creating a dream team   to join us in this adventure.

Do you want to be at the heart of a high-impact and meaningful project that will shape the future of agriculture, by working with the best technologies within a high-potential start-up?

The position

What you’ll be doing

We are looking for the best Product Designer to lead our design efforts, and make carbon finance easily accessible to farmers.

For the first year  your objectives are to:

  • Rely on user discovery (user sessions analysis, user interviews, etc…) to understand the needs of our users, their mindset (farmers and their partners) and  their usual interaction patterns with technology.

  • Leverage user discovery to unify the experience across our services, simplifying all the user facing tasks and focusing on making each step in our process as clear as possible, with concise, effective language and efficient and clear design choices. With the aim of making carbon financing widely available.

  • Be the first design contributor by creating new features (from low definition wireframes to high definition screens) and helping developers implement them properly.

  • Communicate findings about users clearly across the organisation. With the technical team to make sure that only features that have value for users are developed and to make sure that the technical development process goes smoothly.

  • Lean in with non-technical members where your knowledge of users and their problems can improve our service overall. Particularly with Sales, Marketing and their communication materials

  • Act as the internal design lead by setting the standard of design outputs, supporting the recruitment of future individual design contributors and leading them.

You will work closely with Samuel, the CPO, on all the above responsibilities as this is a strategic position for Rize to reach its goals.

As Rize is a start-up, the internal career evolutions are limitless and you will naturally have plenty of opportunities to work on activities outside of the direct scope of your role, as we expand our typology of users across the agricultural value chain there will be a strong need for more design leadership to ensure that all future products are consistent with our approach.

Your skills

We are looking for a candidate who has a track record of :

  • Leading UX research efforts to understand the mindset of users and help them tackle entirely new tasks.

  • Designing tech-products mixing long user facing flows and complex data flows (UX, UI, prototyping)

  • Clearly communicating with technical and non-technical teams

  • Convincing teams to drop features to avoid unnecessary feature creep

  • Setting or maintaining a design system

  • Coaching junior designers

  • Communicating in an international setup. French and English full business proficiency (more languages are welcome).

Hiring values

We would love to work with people who share our core values:

  • Interest in the impact sector and in climate change;

  • Digital native, remote friendly;

  • Casual, open-minded and friendly;

  • Intellectual integrity, as we aim for real impact.

  1. Place of work

This job can be performed remotely. However, as Rize is based in Paris (our offices are in the Deeptech incubator Agoranov, close to Montparnasse), periodic travel to Paris will be required. In short you get the best of both worlds: The comfort of working remotely from home while getting occasions to have meaningful in-person interactions with the team!

4 great reasons to work with us!
  • You will work in a fast pace environment at the heart of the French tech start-up ecosystem (Rize has joined some of the very best incubators in France and beyond), for an exciting experience and a strong learning curve

  • We have a cool and modern tech stack

  • You will wake up every morning knowing that your work matters
